Abstract: This paper investigates the use and function of the expression “gender ideology” in the speeches of federal deputies in Brazil's Chamber of Deputies, focusing on the period 2018– 2022. It starts from the problem of the intensified use of the term as a discursive device to associate gender diversity with a supposed threat to conservative values. The central objective is, based on the observation of these pronouncements, to delimit the formation rules and conditions of existence of a discursive archive on the subject, from the theoretical perspective of Michel Foucault's archaeology. The methodology consists of searching for the key expression in the official speech records of the Chamber's website, whose data were collected and organized into a database for analysis. Subsequently, an analysis was carried out of speeches by selected members of parliament sharing a common theme, namely: the discourse on the imposition of gender ideology in schools, arising from the 2020 ruling on ADI 5,668 — a Direct Action of Unconstitutionality (Ação Direta de Inconstitucionalidade, ADI), which aims to rule on the constitutionality of a given law or normative act and is a fundamental tool for ensuring that the Federal Constitution is upheld. The ADI in question, filed with the Federal Supreme Court (STF) by the Socialism and Liberty Party (PSOL), sought to require schools to combat homophobic bullying. As a contribution, this study aims to deepen the understanding of how conservative political discourses are strategically constructed in the contemporary Brazilian scenario.
