A noção empreendedora de mulheres afrodescendentes em GV - MG: reflexões de um focus group

Abstract

The contemporary socioeconomic context is highly suggestive of the exploration of entrepreneurship from a gender and racial perspective, given the potential this topic has for the development of productive activities and the protagonism of women in the organizational and market scenario. Hence the objective of this study: to analyze the purpose of entrepreneurship among Afro-descendant women in Governador Valadares, Minas Gerais. Clearly, this is a debate that permeates fundamental theoretical issues related to entrepreneurial orientation, the specificities of Black female entrepreneurship, the virtues of the so-called locus of control in entrepreneurial behavior, and the understanding of the entrepreneurship construct itself. This study considers the focus group method, an assertive methodological procedure for qualitative research capable of abstracting valuable information for the purposes of this study. Indeed, the results revealed a multivariate understanding of entrepreneurship in the minds of the target audience, as well as restrictive barriers and concerns related more to gender than race in enhancing the entrepreneurial activity of the women in question. Furthermore, the proactive dimension is highlighted among the other elements of entrepreneurial orientation. Furthermore, a vibrant confidence in the interviewees' locus of control is evident, enabling them to achieve organizational advancement in their respective businesses. Finally, the final considerations reinforce the possibilities for empowerment, historical reparation, and a balance of power in the labor market and society through adherence to entrepreneurship, as verified in the focus group analyzed.
