Cuidados paliativos como campo de atuação do Serviço Social: uma análise a partir das produções do Congresso Brasileiro de Assistentes Sociais - CBAS (2019 e 2022)

Abstract

The main objective of this study is to discuss the professional practice of social workers in the field of palliative care, based on an analysis of the proceedings published at the Brazilian Congress of Social Workers - CBAS in 2019 and 2022. This is a qualitative research study, developed through a literature review and documentary research. The study is divided into two chapters, which address the emergence of palliative care in the world and in Brazil, as well as the role of social workers in this field, covering their professional potential and limitations. According to the data obtained in this research, it is concluded that palliative care is an essential approach in the field of health, as it guarantees the quality of life of patients diagnosed with serious and/or incurable diseases. Social work, in turn, as part of the team, contributes directly to analyzing the social determinants that are present in the terminal process and to making access to the right to health possible. However, it is evident that this form of care is not included in all health services and that access to it is still restricted, making it necessary to broaden the debate on this topic.
