As novas rotas dos livros-reportagem: a adaptação das páginas para o audiovisual

Abstract

This study seeks to investigate the phenomenon of adapting book-reports into audiovisual formats. In order to make the research feasible, there was an attempt to systematize the theoretical frameworks: a) intersemiotic translation and b) adaptation theory; in addition to addressing the possibilities of adaptations in a scenario of convergence with strategies of c) transmediation. Based on these theories, the study proposes a methodological triangulation with the analysis of audiovisual materiality (AMA). Considering that the main problem of the research is to investigate whether the transition of the book-report Rota 66: A História da Polícia que Mata, by Caco Barcellos, to the screen maintained an ethical commitment to the victims, the main empirical object adopted was the audiovisual series Rota 66: A Polícia que Mata, released on Globoplay in 2022. The analysis process consisted of articulating the episodes of the series with excerpts from the book and semi-structured interviews — previously approved by the Research Ethics Committee (CEP - UFJF) — conducted with eight individuals involved in the adaptation process, including the author of the book and the screenwriters. As main results, it was observed that the new route taken by the book-report implied an expansion of the fabulative aspect present in the testimonies, without abandoning the documentary perspective responsible for preserving the victims' stories. In summary, the dissertation produced a graph capable of illustrating the route taken by the book-report, which can be replicated in other studies on the subject in order to assess how the previous aspects behave in this transition, aiming to ensure reflection on the indispensable ethical commitments.
