Castrati: um estudo sobre religião e música

Abstract

This research aims to analyze, through the figure of the Castrati, the relationship between music and religion. Through the methodology of bibliographic research, we sought to understand the factors that culminated in the birth of this group and its impacts within the Church and society. The emasculated singers were born within the Church at a time of changes within it and of social transformations. In this way, music through the Castrati became the stage for complex changes within the institution and in the population that was being influenced by Capitalism. Through the relationship between music and religion, the research aims to understand the social and psychological aspects that were present in the life of man during the period of the Castrati's activity, and the way in which they wrote themselves into history as a legend that represents the pinnacle of bel canto.
